I called the current owners of the “vacant” property only to discover that it is just closed for the summer. I drove back to City Hall and informed the City Planner of the discovery.
He said that it had looked vacant when he drove by it yesterday and since their license to operate a pre-school had expired one month ago, he just assumed that it was available. As I write this, I realize that it was just an honest mistake by someone who was trying to help.
However, last night I had made a fairly big deal of our “good fortune” by taking our children to the building last night. I suppose that has amplified the size of the setback.
