“That’s too bad” becomes “That’s great!”

Back in November, my youngest daughter, Cakes, won one of the main parts in the upcoming school play. She has been practicing with the “Blue Star” cast for the past two months. The “Blue Star” cast is a  little like the first string. The performances will be held Feb. 12-14th.

That will be a big weekend here in the Castle. My mother and my wife’s parents are flying in for that weekend. Bean, our oldest daughter, will be driving up from Dallas with her roommate on Friday night. Not only will Cakes be performing in her play but Big A will be wrestling in the league championship tournament! To top it off, we will also celebrate Bean’s 22nd birthday!

However, yesterday, Cakes talked with the teacher who is directing the show and found out that she was going to perform the Wednesday and Friday night shows. The “Blue Star” cast is performing the Thursday and Saturday night shows.

She would normally be fine with that but that would mean that her big sister would not get to see her perform.

I advised her to talk to the teacher to understand his reasoning. It turns out that he gave the other “Irma” the Thursday/Saturday shows because she is a senior. He said that he had no problem if they wanted to switch.

Cakes talked to the other girl playing “Irma” and to her great credit, Hailey was perfectly willing to switch. Now the weekend will once again be perfect!
