A tornado’s view of Nashville

September 13th, 2009 · No Comments

I planned to get into Nashville at midnight…
But we left NJ an hour late…
and I didn’t expect the hours worth of stop and go traffic when we left D.C. …
So, we got into Nashville at 2:30 A.M.!
This little Nashville diversion all started when I called my second daughter about two weeks ago with “a great idea.”
“What [...]

When does Jack Bauer show up?

June 13th, 2009 · No Comments

In our home in California, I built a room for my library. In our previous apartment, we used the third bedroom as the library. Now, two of our three nice bookcases and my writing table are in our bedroom. Needless to say, it is cozy.
A few years ago, my wife bought me a leather desk chair from [...]

A little here, a little there

June 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Little by little, we are making progress.
My wife and I now have full access to our bathroom. After a little over a week with an aisle of  just 1 1/2 feet wide, it feels huge! Objectively, it isn’t as big or as nice as our last apartment, but…
My wife has nearly finished lining the kitchen cabinet shelves [...]

Today’s big surprise

May 31st, 2009 · 1 Comment

I wanted to stop so, so badly.
After my 60th climb up the stairs, I was tired…pooped.
Man, were the excuses flowing…”I worked so hard yesterday…I’m almost 50 years old…”
But the work had to get done…today. What am I going to do, let my wife and kids do it???
So, I pressed on.
My son and daughter did too. [...]

How many more boxes do we have?

May 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Several months ago, I decided to stop lifting weights. I was at a juncture where I had to commit to seriously training or to stop.
The thought of being “muscular” doesn’t hold the appeal it once did when I was younger. I mean, really, who do I have to impress?
But, I do want to be fit. As [...]

Already??? But I just got situated

May 18th, 2009 · No Comments

I spent the evening packing up boxes and boxes of books that I don’t think I am realistically going to read in the next year. We have been using the third bedroom as an office/library. With just two bedrooms, that will obviously not be the case for the next year.
As I pulled the books off [...]

Haven’t found anything that quite fits

Moving is a big deal.
I have written about the upheaval that resulted from moving from CA to KS.
I have written about the adjustments we have had to make in moving from our own house into an apartment.
I have written about the challenges that my two youngest children have  faced in entering public school for the [...]

Esplain me this

I told you that we might be moving…
Well, we are.
I went to the apartment office to inquire about renewing our lease. I was greeted by exceptionally good news when I got there. It turns out that they lowered their prices a few days ago. In fact, they lowered the price on our apartment by $135/mo.!
Ah, [...]

Do you want to downsize that?

April 26th, 2009 · No Comments

It’s getting windy again here in KS.
But I’m not just talking about the weather. The winds of change are visiting our family…AGAIN!!!
2 1/2 years ago, we had four children in our home. In less than four months, we will be down to one! My son graduates on May 16th. He will be leaving for college by the end [...]

Six more months

December 1st, 2008 · No Comments

We signed a new lease this morning. We will be staying in this apartment for at least another six months. I will be commuting to Blue Springs when the new year rolls around. I just hope gas stays as low as it is right now. It is currently below $1.40!
