A Temporary Loss of Perspective

This morning was quite a battle. My son lost his first match. I guess that should be expected. He has been wrestling for  just 7 months and this tournament has 1029 of the best wrestlers from 45 states competing. Almost all of them have been wrestling for most of their life!

However, he was really brokenhearted. He buried his head with his shirt to hide the painful tears he was crying. I tried to help him out of it but he couldn’t (or wouldn’t, I don’t know) tell me what was going on inside.

Perhaps he is pressuring himself to do well because he is aware of what it cost to get him here.I know that he has been questioning whether he really belongs here.

The fear of failing was pulling on his emotions. “I could be out of the tournament by this morning.”

I just left him alone.
