That’s it…
I’m done!
This will be the last year that I prepare my own taxes.
Last year, I was stuck in the middle of a fight between Kansas and California over who was going to take my money. This year, Kansas and Missouri are duking it out.
I live in Kansas. I work in Missouri. My manager has the exact same situation. He said that he had to pay taxes to Kansas but got most of his money back from Missouri. So, why did Turbo Tax tell me that I was only getting $27 back??? And why does Missouri think that they have a right to our investment income? Are they sending me a message that they don’t want me to work in their state? Or, perhaps I should be willing to pay any amount for the privilege?
I eventually gave up and filed and extension for Missouri.
And, while I am on a rant, Turbo Tax has raised it’s prices to the point where it really doesn’t pay to prepare my own taxes anymore.
$40 to buy the software…$44 for the second state (MO) return…$20 to e-file each state return…Let’s see, carry the 1…yep, that adds up to $124. Hmmm, the lady that does my manager’s taxes charges $140. Guess where I am going next year?
