Blogging has changed me

I have wanted to write for years. I have owned this domain name for 2 1/2 years. I have only been writing for a few weeks and it has already changed me. How?

I used to think that I lived a pretty mundane, somewhat difficult and yet boring life. Whenever people would ask me about what was going on in my life, I grew so weary of repeating the same information month after month that I grew quite adept at redirecting the conversation to what was happening in their life. While that is a good skill to learn, I cannot claim a virtuous motive for learning it.

It also seems pretty ironic now that I have taken to telling the whole world every little detail…LOL!

But just recording these little amazing events has given me a very different perspective. My life is incredibly interesting. In the past, I just lumped the events of my life together into this big pile of difficult circumstances that probably arose because I am not the sharpest tool in the shed’, However, while I still think the latter is true, I feel very differently about life. I live a VERY interesting, full life! And I am grateful for it!

It is a blessing to live a long life. It is another blessing to live a full life!

Back in the far recesses of my memory…

This morning, I did something that I haven’t done for over two decades…

I RAN 5 MILES!

Fun time is over

My daughter had a dinner date in the San Fernando Valley with some of her classmates at 7:00.

I took over the driving after we visited Manhattan Beach, the final beach on our lovely drive together. However, it took us 90 minutes to drive less than 20 miles!

In case you are wondering, I do not miss LA!

I’ve never seen that…

I must have said that 15 times today

My daughter and I drove up the Pacific Coast Highway from my wife’s parents house. In my 31 years here, I have never driven through the famous beaches of California (Huntington, Seal, Manhattan, Hermosa & Redondo)!

I am sure that there are those who will shake their head when they hear that. How could that happen?

Well, there have always been children to parent, church events to attend, young people to mentor, relatives to visit, work to be done on the house, etc., etc. Living life got in the way of seeing all California’s great sights. And I am not sorry that it did.

This time, I combined the sight seeing with a great conversation with my daughter.

The Package Arrives

My wife flew back to KC yesterday.

Today, she called to tell me that “a special package has arrived”!

“Oh, my computer.”

“Can I open it.”

“No! It’s my Christmas present!” (I know that is immature but I really don’t care all that much!)

Not as great as I imagined

We attended our oldest daughter’s graduation today. To be honest, I was a little disappointed.

I thought that since she graduated Summa Cum Laude and won the Dean’s Award for the Most Outstanding Senior of her college that she would be highlighted part of a special ceremony. Evidently not.

She was just one of 1,692 people who earned honors. It was more like herding cattle than a ceremony of honor.

Her kind of day

When my wife came out to help me pack up our belongings, I arranged for a surprise packing party with several of her closest friends who she had not seen in several months. We gave the women as much money as they would accept and told them to go out to eat together as a thank you for helping us.

It turns out that they have chosen today for their lunch date! My wife completely surprised them by joining them! She went from that thank you lunch to dinner with our sailboating friends.

My wife is a people person. Needless to say, her cup ran over today!

This is pretty nice

My daughter and I picked my wife up at LAX. A friend returned my call and we spent the entire afternoon on a his sailboat in the Redondo Beach Harbor. Now, if this is what life in LA was like all of the time, I would definitely miss it.

Welcome Back

Well, the flight went well. I went outside to wait for the shuttle bus. Man its hot! The bus driver informed us that the temperature was 110 degrees!

I wonder what all of the people who said “aren’t you going to miss the weather?” are saying today.

Then I looked at all of the traffic that the bus driver had to deal with. No, I don’t miss that either.

I walked to my friend’s house who allowed me to park my truck in his driveway while we unpacked and looked for the pink slip in Kansas.

Sure enough, the truck started right up and I drove it to my wife’s parent’s house.

Oops

I got up early this morning

…went jogging

…straightened up my office

At 6:35 A.M., I remembered that I had never printed out my itinerary for my flight out. When I did, I learned that my flight left at…

8:00!?!?!?

I NEEDED a shower…

the airport is 35 minutes away…

I haven’t even finished packing!

HONEY!!! I NEED HELP!!!

I had memorized my wife’s departure 8:45 time when I booked her ticket. We arrived at the airport at 7:15 but that was much too close!
