A Precious Jewel Recovered

In just a few short weeks, our youngest daughter will start attending a public high school for the very first time. My son went through this baptism last year.

My wife home schooled all four of our children. One day, when our son and our youngest daughter were about 10 and 8 years old, my wife thought that it was a little too quiet in the house. That is usually a warning sign that all is not well so she decided to check up on the two of them to see what they were doing. They were playing with their backs to the doorway and she overheard the following:

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

“When I get older, I want to marry someone just like you.”

“Me, too.”

Well, a few years later, that relationship was deeply damaged due to some very corrosive outside influences that crept into our home. For several years, they had some pretty strong conflict in their relationship due to wounded hearts and broken trusts.

About two years ago, things began to heal and their friendship began to be restored to some degree. However, about two months ago, I still saw petty fighting, “turf guarding” and trying to best each other.

I talked with each of them individually and reminded them of their deep friendship when they were younger. I told them that I thought they could enjoy that once again. In fact, I told them that I thought that was God’s intention. They are supposed to be each other’s best friend and strong support this next year at high school together.

Today, I saw the first evidence that their wonderful, fun, deep friendship is completely restored. They were both enjoying each other’s company and friendship soooo much!

I cannot tell you how delighted I am in seeing that!
